My work “untitled 2013” (2013), is an
experimental painting created in 2013. The colors are hazy and chalky, using
low contrast and maelstrom brushes stroke’s chaotic movement. The intended
purpose of these elements is to offer the audience a hallucinatory or drunken feeling
under the water’s and waves’ twisted gravity. The scale of painting is half the
size of other artist’s works. Evaluating the visual impact on the audience, I
found that it is not as much as I hoped for and the colour construct is not
good enough to represent the dream-like feeling. The low contrast does not have
a strong spiritual impact. My aim
was to achieve what Messer (1997) refers to as: “A painting whose imagery leave
us little by way of even vestigial subject matter, while overpowering the
viewer with the sheer force of its energetic shapes and radiant colours. ”(Messer, 1997, p. 92)
