The work presented is a painting of two main colours on canvas; it engages with the thematic ideas of color combination and energy.  The colour choice is based on colour harmony, contrast, constancy, and subconscious choice.

The images are simple abstract paintings that represent the horizon of the ocean; those two elements, the sky and the water are clear and transparent. But our perception of the colours of them by the physical properties of light passing through the atmosphere causing what’s known as the Rayleigh scattering. The atmosphere diffused sunlight waves and changes the wavelengths of passing light to shorter wavelengths, which form cold colours at noon, however the sunrise and sunset conditions are different.

The sky and ocean are of endless scale, depth, and space and has strong luminosity themselves. I feel the sky and ocean are like gigantic diamond in which I am within; reflecting and defusing light. This feeling comes from nature appreciation.

The colours I chose are clam/low contrast and some of colors are energetic/ strong contrast (unusual combinations). The strong luminosity colours are influenced by special nature sources, tropical birds, flowers (even insects view ultraviolet light) lava, blood and fire.

I felt those colors attract attention more than any other colour range, because that what we see in nature as something to avoid such as: fire, blood and lava. Tropical birds and flowers have a special attraction to us because of their unique colour combinations.  

The luminous colours are interesting to experiment with and observe how society reacts to different colour compositions.

The color composition and proportion are carefully selected by color range properties. The words of the poem by Aoniyoshi “『あおによし』” (Aoniyoshi: “Turquoise and vermilion are great”)– from ancient Japanese poem in Nara city. The city has the vermilion temple gates against the blue sky; the huge blue sky and small amount of the unusual red color represents harmony between the humanity and nature. The scale of the human race is small in relation to nature (represented by red– the colour of life).

  The juxtaposition of the vivid red (humanity) that activates the cone in the eye (responding to high wavelength), and the oceanic blue that activates the cones (that responds to shot wavelength) that range encompasses a great deal of energy that transcends from high to low energy as the observes eye scan the painting. The calmness of the ocean represented is set in what is usually considered energetic and eye-catching red, shows that the two colours next to each other give a calm feeling (opposed to red in itself).  By contrast, the totality of the small painting presented as one next to it shows the effect that a group of elements (colour combinations) give as a whole rather than what they  look like individually ( the whole is other than the sum of the parts)– similar to what we experience when looking at pixels (or pointillist paintings).
